"Like is such a strong word!" Said nobody, ever!"

It is a safe word,a non-committal word, a "fill-in-the-gaps" word. It's an agreeable word, one which lacks passion and fire, but is entirely suited to certain contexts or scenario's.

For example, it's use in Social Media: to like, +1 or *Favorite a status, a post, a tweet, a pic or a video means you find it agreeable or pleasing.

It could be easy to dismiss this kind of feedback as a lazy and easy response from individuals who pay cursory attention to the content for which they have given a thumbs up.

What this single word does however show, is a nod of approval or a shared value. And this is a good starting point in forming a new relationship or an excellent way to cement an existing friendship.

It shows appreciation, it shows that you not only read or viewed something (particularly if it's of a personal nature) but that you wish to openly express your interest in it.

Rather overuse the Like option than to view other people's postings without ever giving any feedback. This does verge on the questionable ( a bit like an online voyeur)

In contemporary society the word Like is often overused . People like use it in a sentence like where it doesn't belong. Or use it as a filler word, as an interjection, as a substitute for a wealth of other words.

"I like met him, but like wish I hadn't."

It slips in easily in conversation.

Why am I hating on like?

Well, I was at the receiving end of this word today and it made me think.

Is this really the word you want to hear from someone you thought you were close to?

In my case, Like No!

"I like you."

Ahhhhh! That's nice.

Argh!!!!

Me, I like my emotions raw and heightened.

I like candy, but I love chocolate.

I like hugs, but I love tickles and nibbles.

I like movies, but I love books, long and epic.

I like lingerie, but love sleeping in fuzzy pj's.

I like handbags, but I love high heel shoes.

I like many things, without a doubt.

But when it comes to matters of the heart, Like is banished to the back of the line, alongside maybe, perhaps and some day.
